About InsightTrack Bookkeeping

Bookkeeping Built for Venture-Backed and Bootstrapped Startups

We work with a range of service-based businesses, and we understand the financial rhythms of startups well enough to build our approach around what founders actually need: accrual-basis revenue recognition, burn rate and runway, SAFE and note schedules, R&D tax credit tracking. These are specific enough that a generalist bookkeeping approach rarely goes deep in any of them.

That focus is the whole premise. When your bookkeeper has actually taken a company through a priced round before, the conversation moves faster and the numbers you get back are ready for a board meeting or a diligence request — not just accurate.

Why Startups Specifically

Startup accounting isn't harder than other small-business accounting — it's built around different questions. A retail shop wants to know if it's profitable this month. A startup wants to know its burn rate, its runway, and whether its books would survive a diligence request tomorrow. Those are different disciplines, and trying to serve both well with the same generic approach usually means serving neither one deeply.

How We Work

Everything runs on QuickBooks Online on an accrual basis, connected to the tools startups actually use — Stripe, Brex, Ramp, Gusto, Deel. Every engagement starts with a free discovery call where we look honestly at where your books stand today. If they need conversion from cash to accrual or general cleanup first, that's scoped as its own project with a clear price and end point.

Once you're current, monthly service runs on a fixed rhythm: reconciled accrual-basis books, burn rate and runway tracking, investor-ready financials, and a short call to walk through what matters. Everything is remote — video calls and a shared document portal — the same way most of the startups we work with operate.

Who We Work Best With

Pre-seed through Series B startups, SaaS and otherwise, who want their books to survive a board meeting and a diligence request without a scramble beforehand. Founders who are tired of getting financials that are technically accurate but built on the wrong accounting method for what investors expect. And teams that would rather claim the R&D tax credit they're eligible for than discover a year later that nobody was tracking it.

What We're Not

We're a bookkeeping firm, not a CPA firm — we don't prepare or file tax returns, and we say so plainly. What we do is keep your books accrual-basis and clean all year, so whoever prepares your return and claims your R&D credit gets accurate numbers instead of a reconstruction project. See our R&D Tax Credit & Startup Tax Compliance page for how that handoff works.
